1. Abhinav Bindra wins first individual gold for India in Olympic history

Key facts:Bindra comes from Chandigarh.India has only won gold medal in hockey till now. India has won a total of 6 individual medals in Olympic history.Norman prichard won two silver medals in 1900.K.D Jadhav won a bronze in wrestling in 1952.Leander paes won bronze in Tennis in 1996. Malleshwari won bronze in 2000 in weightlifting. Rajyawardhan singh Rathore in shooting in 2004.

2.Amarnath row turns violent in Kashmir, 23 killed

Key facts:The protests had turned an ugly turn after Hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz was killed in police firing.Earlier the protestors were trying to march towards POK capital Muzaffarabad with their fruit trucks.Jammu returns to normalcy after protets for a month.

Key facts:Infaltion is the highest since March 1995 when it touched 16%.It was at 5% level in the beginning of 2008.Crude prices had touched an all time high of $147 in July.

7.Prime ministers Economic adviser C. Rangarajan predicted India's economic growth to slow down to 7.7% this year.

Key facts:India had been growing at a pace of 9% for the last four years . This will be the slowest in last 5 years.

10.Nehru Trophy boat race won by Karichal chundan.India wins AFC cup football beating Tajikistan.

Key facts:Nehru Trophy boat race is held every year in Aleppey, Kerala. This boat race holds a world record for having the highest no. members in a single team-110 members.
